Semantic Modeler - create aliases/alternate names automatically when renaming pres layer objects

As we switch for development of semantic models in OAS to usage of Semantic Modeler (in favor of BI Administration Tool), we are finding out what functionalities from the BI Administration Tool are missing in the Semantic Modeler (and are useful) and would therefore like them to be available in the web-based Semantic Modeler. One of these functionalities is automatic creation of aliases (in Semantic Modeler called alternate names) when presentation layer object (table, column) is renamed. Those aliases then avoid breaking functionality of existing "outputs" (analyses, prompts, possibly even DV workbooks) when referring those "old names" of presentation layer objects. Would be good to have this functionality (possibly optionally activated by developer) also in web-based Semantic Modeler.

This is a really good QoL (Quality of Life) feature that will make modeling development significantly easier in SM, especially when we have lots of report developers in the organization that leverage existing Subject Areas.
Having to manually create aliases is time-consuming, and can easily lead to mistakes, which break reports on the front-end (and a poor experience for users all around).1 -
@Rick195 Actually implementation of this feature will give us in web based Semantic Modeler similar level of "comfort" as we used to have in BI Administration Tool. So all features/functionality missing in Semantic Modeler and are present in BI Admin Tool and makes your metadata developer live easier should be transferred to Semantic Modeler (I have created Ideas for all of them). I hope, that this will be considered - @Pravin Janardanam-Oracle - because for Ideas connected to Semantic Modeler number of votes/thumbs up" as the only "measure" for putting them in the roadmap is not working - since semantic model developers represents quite narrow (and more specialized) part of OA community (when comparing to number of users of DV).

@Michal Zima @Rick195
I can confirm this feature is on the roadmap with an expected ETA in Q1 Calendar Year 2026. We appreciate your feedback and advocacy for our Semantic Model developers.1 -
Thanks @Pravin Janardanam-Oracle for the update. It would be helpful to get clearer visibility into upcoming Semantic Modeler (SM) enhancements—either through a prioritized roadmap or easier navigation in Idea Lab.
As @Michal Zima noted , there are several Model Admin Tool features not yet in SM, and many teams (mine included) are only discovering these gaps as we transition tools.
Could we explore adding filters or sorting in Idea Lab by function, similar to the Product Roadmap? That would make it much easier to understand the backlog and request queue.
Also agree with Michal—thumbs-based prioritization makes it tough for SM-related requests to gain traction, given the smaller user base. Is there a way non-user-facing requests (like SM) could be prioritized differently?
Thanks again for the quick response and feedback. Appreciate it!

@Pravin Janardanam-Oracle Pravin, thanks, great to hear it will be implemented. One question: Will it get into January 2026 OAC release to have this in OAS 2026 ?Otherwise we would have to wait till OAS 2027 - which is incredibly long period to wait…. Thanks

@Michal Zima @Rick195 , thanks for the continued advocacy and follow-up questions.
I can confirm the automatic alias creation feature is planned for January 2026 and we expect it to be included in the OAS 2026 release.
I appreciate your feedback regarding Semantic Modeler roadmap visibility and the challenges of a vote-based prioritization system for specialized features. We're actively exploring ways to improve how we communicate and prioritize enhancements for our core developer community.
We appreciate your input and will share updates as soon as we have them.

@Pravin Janardanam-Oracle Thanks for confirmation, I appreciate it.
Is it the same case for Ideas I have created and has been put into Planned status recently:
? Thanks for feedback.
