Can I close a Checklist assigned to an employee?

Summary:

We have uncompleted onboarding checklists assigned to employees that are no longer active, is there a way to close them without deleting or marking them complete? Marking them as complete would be a compliance issue because it would imply that we collected all the necessary policy acknowledgements which wouldn't be accurate, and deleting the checklist would remove what policies and tasks they did complete.
