Lock "Amount" field in Form

On the sales order the way our system is set up now anyone within any role can change the amount on a sales order.  This is very dangerous. How do we lock this field within the role or elsewhere?  According to a case we put in NS said you can't do this currently which is ridiculous.   Lets say you have a pissed off sales rep or one who isn't paying attention they could place an item on the order and not charge the customer for the product.  Why would NS ever allow that. It seems counter-intuitive to the basic model
