How does Sales Tax management work via Suitetax module?

Looking for community feedback.

When I started at my job just a couple of months ago, they were pricing out Avalara vs OneSource to automate the sales tax rate updates and exemption certificates. We also do business all across North America, and on rare occasions, overseas.

My boss and the Sr. Admin (who is now gone) had decided on OneSource because it was substantially less expensive.

I just looked into the SuiteTax module and it looks like it covers everything that OneSource/Avalara does. Am I missing anything? Also, does anyone know how the prices compare?

I would like to use SuiteTax if it will do the job. I would think it would be a smoother transition.

Also, if you feel that maintaining the sales tax rates are manageable inside native NetSuite, please let me know your experience, and perhaps we could have a zoom call about it.

Hi @John Robertson Sr.,

I checked your concern internally and here are the information I've gathered:

SuiteTax has no additional subscription/transaction price. If you can implement it by yourselves (this can be tested in Sandbox), then there's no implementation fee either. However, you could get our Advanced Customer Support (ACS) to help (and when that project is completed, you'd also have ACS for other stairway-type improvements).

SuiteTax can create/update tax codes/rates, and you can test it in a Sandbox account if it will meet your needs for tax determination/calculation. If there’s a use-case that SuiteTax cannot handle, then that is what the partner-integrations are for. For example, when NetSuite users do not want to handle the exceptions manually (if there’s a use-case with 1 transaction only a day that takes 1 person 5mins to review/correct, then user might not consider using a partner yet).

Moreover, the partners can complete/submit the State tax forms whereas SuiteTax does not do that itself. For tax partners like Sovos, Vertex, Avalara, maybe Thomson Reuters OneSource, and etc. those partners can complete/submit the State tax forms “as a service”, where the users send the data to the partner via a file downloaded from NetSuite.
