I think /core/ is for images, etc. /s.nl/ has broad implications, I elected not to disallow at such a broad level. As an example, if you have more items in a category than can display on a page, the page 2 will look something like: http://www.mysite.com/s.nl/c.482623/n.1/sc.7/category.39/.f?range=46,87,87 Yes, the above…

Paul, Still pondering... When I did site:http://www.lampspecs.co.uk, I noticed the URL below: www.lampspecs.co.uk/Contact?chrole=17 Would you have an idea of what ?chrole=17 denotes? I am guessing it has something to do with NetSuite roles but how would msnbot get a hold of it. Also, you are at 204 today...

Paul, Very interesting, I pondered this for about 30 minutes and could not come up with an answer. Suggestions: 1) Regenerate the sitemap, I randomly clicked on 4 links in the sitemap and 2 were 404's. Example:…

That means when spiders get to the cart page, they should not index it or follow its links (it generally has no special links anyway). DJ, I thought blocking in robots.txt would absolutely prevent the spider from crawling that page. Two thoughts on noindex: 1) I may be mistaken and someone please correct me if I am wrong…

In the fall maintenance release, we will have a fix that ensures recognized spiders are never served an URL with a JSessionId or with the context-specifying sc or category parameters. This will go far to collapse the URL set of your site down to the most minimal set of unique URLs, from the perspective of search engines.…

The cart is ...netsuite.com... so the robots.txt from mysite.com will not be in effect. I do not know a good program for creating sitemap.html. You can specify the location of your sitemap.xml file in robots.txt. This is the uniform method for the big four to pickup robots.txt Instructions:…

I'll have to try that. Did you load up all 3500 redirects you needed and how long did it take to run the macro? Did you do it in stages or all 3500 in one shot? I'm not much of an excel expert. Is it easy to setup a keyboard macro? Any recomendations or pointers on doing this? Thanks Dan Actually, I used a product called…

D.J., Thank you for all the great work. I agree with your points including some may want images spidered. I attached to 127744 and could not determine the details. Below is a recap of related issues: Note: * is wildcard 1) Issue 126602: "Exclude navigation context information from web store item drilldown page URLs if the…

As a note, robots.txt can be created but I have not tested yet to see if Google webmaster tools verifies properly. My only question is that the CR|LF is stripped so it appears on one line.

Did you ever figure out how to install 3500 redirects? I have over 5000 i need to do. The only way I found was to use a keyboard macro which read the redirects out of an Excel spreadsheet and pasted into NetSuite. It was slow but it worked...

The Item URL Component is missing from CSV Import, Web Services and smbXML. As far as I know, it is not exposed for any entity. Future Solution: Please vote for enhancement request 125892- Descriptive/Component/SEO URL update/add via webservices/CSV import. Current Solution: Import your URL component to the item name…

Phil, Unfortunately, I do not think you can use robots.txt. The only method I can figure out would be meta tags: <meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow"> For further definition see: http://www.robotstxt.org/wc/meta-user.html If you find a better way, please post in this thread. I would love to know.

I would greatly prefer ourdomain.com/children-magic-tricks. Reasons: 1) I believe the shorter domain will display better in the SERPs. If the user entered, "Children Magic Tricks" those words would be highlighted in the URL. The user can read it much faster. 2) From a pure SEO side, I would think…

robots.txt does work fine, at least with v2007.0. My CR|LF issue was my fault. My text editor was defaulting to the wrong format. :o

The summary below is caused by the search engines methodology behind 301 redirects. There is nothing NetSuite can do to take the pain away. This is IMHO, I love to study SEO and try to learn something new every day. links with NS URLs i.e. ending something like /s.nl/it.I/id.216/.f won't break even if you use descriptive…

NetSuite's ability to have SEO friendly URL's is a GREAT function. If a site is already indexed with the system URL's, it is critical to understand the impacts of changing the URL's from the system URL's to the URL Component / SEO friendly URL's. This has nothing to do with NetSuite, it is the calculated risk you take when…

I stand corrected. Robots.txt does work if placed in the web site hosting files. Google Web Master Tools verifies the format.

Upload robots.txt to: File Cabinet | Web Site Hosting Files | Live Hosting Files This is generally, the "root" for your site. This should allow you to enter: www.mysite.com/robots.txt and then see the contents.

David, In short, the "?" is an issue. I have an open case with NetSuite on how to perform redirects when there are "?"'s. The problem is that the parameter redirects do not work. Please let me know if you solve it and I will do the same.

Last week I implemented descriptive URL's on my site. Before I made the change, I wrote down 20 major keywords and our current rankings. Below are some general guidelines about URL's in general (Not just NetSuite) 1) If you change your URL, you MUST create a redirect pointing the old URL to the new URL. NetSuite handles…

The meta tags approach will work. You should also be able to host your own robots.txt file, which would override NetSuite's default one. d.j. - Where would you create the robots.txt. I assume in the root of the NS web hosting files. If you do this, you get a funny icon and when you try to enter www.mysite.com/robots.txt,…

I was just making some changes in our URLs. .... Now we have www.site.com/old-desc-url to www.site.com/new-descriptive-url BUT! Shouldn't the OLD descriptive URL immediately 301 to the new URL? Phillip - If you have not done so, you will need to create redirects to force www.site.com/old-desc-url to redirect to…

David, It is issue 125345. Simple redirects work. www.oldsite.com/old_url.html www.newsite.com/new-url or www.mysite.com/old-url www.mysite.com/new-url

"What info would be hand coded into the URL's? Jenn - By "hand coded", I mean that one would hand enter each descriptive URL rather than using the auto-generated tool. For example: Instead of "/All-Products/Parents-of-Kids-2-12" maybe "/children-magic-tricks" would be a more accurate URL with keywords that are meaningful.

1. Take the URL but remove everything after the ? 2. Setup a redirect with everything before the ? 3. It should then redirect to the correct place! I did a 3 minute test so I could be wrong but this is what I am seeing: Redirect www.mysite.com/old_url.html To www.mysite.com/new-url If you enter this in the browser:…

We have the advanced web site design module so maybe that is required. You specify the meta description, etc at the category, item and site level.
-
You can create unique page title and meta description per page. Related to images, it is kind of unique. You specify the image alt tag at the image level. At first I did not like this but after further consideration, it could make sense and be useful. My thought is that the SE's are pretty smart about image alt tags. If…

I get a bunch with ";jsessionid=..." in our site's URLs when I try to spider our site when attempting to make our Google sitemap. I use Mac, so I am using "Google Sitemap Automator" by "RAGE Software". Sure would be easier if NS's system would just automatically make these. -Tom Does the tool you are using have the ability…

...add your name to Enhancement 109212 Done. Technical reference site is http://www.sitemaps.org/.
