help? Currency variation on amount based WF

Hi All,

I was trying to build a workflow that converts the total amount to its value in USD to determine if it is >= x amount requiring more levels of approval. I was trying to build a table to show exchange rates in all currencies that i could lookup in each transaction and populate a field with the value in USD. I am having trouble getting this to work. is there an easier way to do this?

People in Japan will be entering in Yen for example but the workflow should be detecting the value in USD to drive the workflow.
