Project Template Generic Resource -> Assigned

How do I take a template and then easily substitute an actual resource for a generic resource? 

For example, I may have consultant Level 3, but now I want to replace the uses of Level 3 with an actual person/resource.  Otherwise, I have to go into each task, then assignments, and replace on each task.  This would be difficult with many tasks.
