Generate a Work Order or Purchase Order from a project task

We are intending to use the SRP to manage work done by 3rd parties.  They are all expecting a formal work order or purchase order for their efforts.  Is it possible to create a PO from the project task that sources all the relevant info from the task?  Can it remain a related record in the project?
