Per the other thread - one of the best places to start is by looking at what Oracle did and are doing in their workflow module. Now - granted - it needs looking at itself and the scope of this is something thats dynamic and huge. However - very valuable. Below is a bit from Oracle definining it - the rest can be seen in their reference manuals.

Now - Netsuite has some workflow already built in - but its in a adhoc manner requiring a high amount of expertise. Features like:

Routing of cases.
Routing of leads.
Sales order approval versus direct to fulfilment.
