Direct List Editing problem

I have created a saved item seach to view my item list so it displays all the various names/descriptions (name, display name, sales description, online name, online description, page title). I should be able to edit all of these fields in direct list editing (All five columns display the little pencil icon), but, for some reason, I cannot edit the "Page Title" column.
I also tried creating a custom item field (a checkbox) and was unable to make that editable in my item list.
Is there something going on with NetSuite which would effect this functionality?
