Reports timing out

We are having trouble running both the standard "Sales Orders Pending Fulfillment" report and a customized report that's based on this same standard report - we're getting the 'Report Execution Erro' message.  When we run it in the background, it's taking a couple of hours before it's ready.

Needless to say, it's causing us to work at a snail's pace.  Anybody else having trouble today?
