Sanbox Account users - How is the performance?

I'm playing with the idea of adding a sandbox account to our, uhm, account.  I think I've heard somewhere that it's terribly slow and I'm wondering if this is true.  For example, the Debugger account is a tad bit slower, but certainly usable.  Is sandbox the same or is there a really big difference?
