Random number with getRecordAttribute

I'm trying to display customer comments homepage using a custom record. The problem is I cannot Generate a random number to put into the ID field <%=getRecordAttribute('recordTypeID',id,'attribute')%> until after the page is loaded with Javascript. Has anyone done this before? Or have any experience getting something similar to work? Or even just an idea to try!
