On Order Sold Report or Search

I am looking for a report or search that will tell me how many pieces of an item we currently have on order and how many pieces we have sold in a specific period of time.  I am having a tough time getting this data in one report.  If I run a sales report items that we have not sold yet will not come up on the report even if we have them on order.  Any ideas?
