promocodes no longer handled by cookie?

Howdy

Does anyone know how promocodes are stored on the users browser now? They used to be stored as a cookie. I had some scripting in place to pull this cookie and perform a function based on it. A few months back this script of mine no longer functioned. It puzzled the hell out of me, but I've now noticed that there is no promocode cookie.

How how how is it now stored now, and can I still reference it in a script?
