Coupon Codes - Exclude Specific Categories

Does anyone have an idea or solution for writing a script to exclude specific categories of products or specific manufactures from coupon codes?  We have several manufactures that do not allow our customers to use our discounts on their products as they are MAP pricing.  I was hoping that now with Scriptable Checkout something can be done.  Any ideas?
