Order-based promotions (spend $x amount and get 1 of item Y or Z free)

We want to offer a specified web-store inventory item for FREE if a customer's order total is => $500.  There would be 4 free items to pick from.  The promotion should limit them to one of the free items (per order over $500).  Is that possible with advanced promotions?  There is no example in the help center.
