Voiding invoices and returns

I just got this question from a client.

"We need to be able to void invoices and returns. We don’t want to delete them because then there is no record of them. I can’t find any option for voiding."

They have the “Void Transactions Using Reversing Journals Preference” enabled. Even with this option disabled is it possible to void invoices or do they have to be deleted?
