Updating Sales Order Line - Serial Number/Lot Number field

Hi,
I'm trying to update serial number/lot number field in Sales Order form after the SO is fulfilled, but I receive an error that serial number key is invalid.
I can understand it is because the SN is no longer available at the specified location.
But I'm just wondering if there is any workaround.

I tried to do it both through UI and through C# web service with no luck.

Did anyone experience with this issue before?
