What is a Standalone Invoice?

There is a button on the invoice screen that says "Make Standalone Copy".  What is the difference between "Make Copy" and "Standalone Copy"?  What effect does it have on inventory?  There is nothing in the NetSuite Help Center about it.  I would really appreciate any insight.
