Refund sales tax only

Would anyone have a best practice for how to refund a customer just tax on an invoice? Specifically, if the invoice was for July 2015 and the Sales Tax has already been paid, what is the best way to credit the customer the tax while reducing this months sales tax liability. (so the end of month sales tax process reflects)
