Client side script for total order weight?

Does anybody out there have a nice handy-dandy client side script to show an alert if the total order weight (ie, adding up the item weights for all line items) is less than a certain weight when Save is clicked on a quote or sales order? 

Alternately, a script to just calculate and display the total order weight whenever a custom button is clicked? (so that the quote or sales order doesn't have to be saved before we know the total weight).  The online help says that custom buttons are only displayed in Edit mode, but that's okay for our purposes.
