How to Test for New Created Record?

Two questions:

[*]How do I test in Client-side script for a new record that is just created but has NOT been saved yet?[LIST]
[*]In the onSave event I need to set some fields ONLY if this is the first time this record has been saved.[/LIST]
[*]How do I test to determine if this record was created using the "COPY" button on th U/I?[/LIST]TIA.
