How to redirect to a Suitelet with parameters from a Checkout page/User event Script?

After a user submits on the checkout page, I want to redirect to a Suitelet URL with the sales order internal id as a parameter. Is this doable?

I created a userevent script deployed for sales order aftersubmit and tried nlapiScheduleScript and nlapiSetRedirectURL, but with no luck.

On the thank you page, is there a way to get the internalid of the sales order that is created when the customer submitted the order?

Any help is appreciated!
