Set Line item class using a saved search w/ a join to the item record

I apologize in advance for the length of this post and if I don't make sense, it is because I'm trying to do this when no users are in the system, so it is late... or early!
I need to update the item class per line item for some transactions. I created a saved search which gives me all the fields I need, however I still have something wrong.
The search criteria narrows the transaction search to the lines i need. I have type, main line = false, class = unassigned, Item:ItemCat = appropriate cats(these all correspond to the classes, just used to give a little more detail per class and is a custom field) and
