Message Record Types - Incoming Messages

Is it possible to trigger user event scripts on incoming messages such as reply emails, etc.? The Message record is exposed to SuiteScript for server-side scripts. A user event script such as AfterSubmit works fine for something like an email sent out of NetSuite, but does not work on a reply - even though a reply is equivalent to a new Message record begin created in NetSuite.

Anybody else run across this? Could WorkFlow be used at all to work around this or provide an alternative solution?
