Setting itemfulfillment package count and weight

I'm trying to fulfill a salesorder using suitescript and I am having problems.

1. Why is the sublist 'package' not available? I see sublists like 'packageups' and 'packageusps' depending on the shipping method.

2. Adding packages works, but when the record is saved, I get additional packages added on the record. If an item is marked 'shipped individually' that will be a separate package as well. I would want this behavior to mirror the experience in UI w/only the packages I explicitly provide being saved.
