Sourcing and Filtering

I've been trying to get the sourcing and filtering to work as the help file suggests, but for some reason I'm not returning any values. I am attempting to source from a field on a custom record, and have a value of a field on that custom record appear in a custom field on a contact record. I'm assuming (may be my mistake here) that this is what sourcing and filtering is used for.

Here's what I have:

Field - Ref List
type=list
list/record=custom record A (the custom record I am referencing)
store value=F

Field - Score
