Can someone explain Drill downs?

I have a saved search.  The underlying record has date, customer, trans type, amount.  I have no criteria and I am grouping by customer by trans type sum(amount).  In the drill down tab I have date.  However, when I drill down, I don't get the listing by date.

Is there a way to drill down to a list where I get another list that includes date?
