I posted in another forum but thought I'd try here, as this has been driving me crazy since we went live over a year and a half ago.

All of our items are set up with a Subtype prefix, so for example instead of just item # (or part # as we call them), "XX-1234", any Saved Search or Custom Form will display or return "COLOR DISPLAY UNIT : XX-1234".  Thankfully when entering transactions or a search filter we only have to type the root, XX-1324, and the rest populates as you type.  I understand why Subtype exists for reporting purposes, but if any Netsuite employee is listening: keep it a separate field please, it causes so many headaches having it part of the item name, and it really doesn't provide any added value from an inventory management perspective.
