Formula to calculate time between invoices/cash sales

We are currently using a Customer Search to pull a list of customers who have recently purchased from us for the first time using "Date of First Sale".  We want to include in this search customers who have recently purchased after a year or more of no sales.  Anyone have any thoughts on how to get this data?
