Inventory display name
In the general preferences there is a check box titled "Show Display Name with Item Codes". It has this information attached to it:
Check this box to have both the item number and item display name appear in dropdown and popup lists.
For example, Item Name/Number "1234567" has the Display Name/Code "Deluxe Widget." When you turn on this preference, the item dropdown and the sales form show "1234567 Deluxe Widget."
Making this choice also enables one to search on the words stored in the display name. We recently decided to store information exactly as above in the example, our SKU is the item number and we have some general search terms in the Display Name field.
