Precaution when enable Inventory Multi Location

We started inventory without multiple location feature. All the items are created already. Now we have the need to enable multi location. So we can do inventory move among different locations.

We were warned by other NetSuite users that, if we enable Multiple location now, we may need to redo all of our inventory items. Can anyone let me know if this is true, and what precautions I need to take before I go ahead to enable this new feature?
