Has there been an improvement to do a full physical inventory?

One of my customers would like to do a full Physical Inventory of 1 of their locations.  They use Advanced Bin Management (No Lot or Serial Numbers).  The Inventory Count feature requires having item classifications which have not been set and I was hoping there has got to be a better way,  In the past have tried using the feature and was more trouble than it seemed to be worth.  I ended up using the Celigo Smart client at my last place and using excel.

Almost 12,000 Item/Bin combinations currently.
Anyone have thoughts or suggestions on the best way to do a full inventory?
