Sales Territories and Sales Regions

We have both sales regions as well as sales territories (e.g. Northwest Region with smaller territories within) I am unsure that the original solution that pre-dates me is the most useable and I am wondering if anyone else has come up with a solution that would allow for a more parent/child territory/region relationship.
