How to get the item UPC on a picking ticket with Advanced PDF/HTML template?

I need to be able to get the UPC of each item being fulfilled on an Advanced PDF picking ticket. The UPC code field is not available to call in by just saying ${item.upccode} because it's not a supported field from the item sublist on a Sales Order. Is there any known work around for this?
