Thanks Jhotz, We managed to import - 500 approx. Still get error messages on every import 'an error has occured' thats it. Re-upload it without changing anything and those items that have failed import successfully next time. Bizarre!

Well it doesn't say, but every purchase order has this in the system notes : but the email address is already set by default, I think it gets pulled in automatically from the supplier. Nobody enters this email address in.
