I would create it as an inventory item with special order and then include that item in the assembly. this was you can track purchases of the item and handle the billing. And if there are returns or excess of this item you can track the "overstock" as inventory. I agree, inventory item.

Sadly I also used Assemblies for this. But Kit might work depending on how you need to keep track of it.

Thats no problem at all, You can have 5 vendors setup for the same item. One could be 25 a box, another 50 a box, another could just be single items. The part that is confusing me is how to keep track of inventory. I have a box of spokes, I might sell 32 for a Matrix, and I might sell 5 for spare items to a different customer. I need to be able to keep track of the inventory of the raw product. You cant add options?

If I used Assemblies Im looking at about 30,000 part numbers. Some times we make substitution on the assemblies. and If I need to allow for that, them Im looking at 200,000 Part numbers.

There is a larger problem, Freight charges would be best allocated using weight or size. Taxes, Duty, and other fee's would be good to allocate based on the value of the item.
