What is the impact of changing Customer Contact email address with existing messages?

I know I can change manually and through .csv update Customer Contact email addresses (domain change, etc.)

SuiteAnswers below are helpful to accomplish but do not mention impact.

Mass Update Email address of Contact Records linked to Customer Records| Answer Id: 84711

Update the Contact Email Domain Via CSV Import|Answer Id: 62008

Will I need to assign new passwords? Likely YES.

Will the existing messages be retained on the Contact?

I will be testing these but wondered if anyone could suggest other gotchas or provide advice.
