SDF Starting Help

I've been long looking to get into SDF, but I'm stuck on how to get going given I have an existing workspace in eclipse that is not a NetSuite project and that is already in a GIT repository.

I have a folder structure something like

ns_customizations
-- JS
-- Templates
-- Documentation

Is there anyway to convert an existing eclipse workspace that is already in a GIT repository to an SDF compatible project? If there isn't any thoughts or suggestions on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated.
