Item No on Price List

Has anyone figured out how to put the Item Name/Number (itemid) on a price list?  I tried creating a custom transaction column (which seems to be a defect since the transaction columns don't even show up when added). I also tried creating a custom item field (which does show up an an available field on price lists) but I guess you cannot source a custom field to the same record type.  Lastly, I created a default formula for custom item field using {itemid} but when I print price lists, it does now show up.
