drill down into item from customer file, item tab

I have yet to figure out how to customize view in Items tab on customer file.  I want to be able to drill down into the Item. Unable to drill down into anything so must open new window to open item to view.  I am able to do that in Vendor file, Items tab and tried to recreate but unsuccessful. Thank you for any assistance!
