Extending Sample_Cart.ssp to show item image

I'm trying to extend the Sample_Cart.spp page to show the items' thumbnail image.

The storedisplaythumbnail field is not available in the orderitem object. It looks like I have to use the item object to get that information.

It's not clear to me how to proceed. I'm not sure if I have to use .getFieldValues()  or  .getItem() in order to create the JSON object that could contain the image URL.

IF I use the getItem(), what goes before it and how do I use it?


I've been able to get much of the information I need, just not the thumbnail image. I've spent all day working on this and now I'm stuck.
