Reporting Headcount

Is there any way to report headcount (employees) by month using Saved Search.  I can run a simple headcount search for one month but I can get multiple month in one search.  I am trying to create one for a month view on my Dashboard.   The Employee KPI provided by NS does not properly show the headcount number and therefore the new to create a save search.
