PHP - Retrieving Custom Records

Hi,

I have a custom record that I would like to access.  The internalID is 40, and the record name is Equipment.  The id is customrecord_inventory.  How do I go about retrieving a specific record of this type, where I know the internalID of the specific record.  Relatively new to PHP
