Manage duplicates - why just 10 records now?

I tried to do a mass update of duplicate contacts and received the following message: "You can merge a maximum of 10 records at a time."

What's the point of mass updates if you can only do 10 at a time?  We used to be able to do 100 at a time, so I'm not sure why this changed.  Has anyone found a way to get around it?
