Sending Subscription Messages Through Mass Update Not Working

I recently customized our opt-in confirmation message (on the "Marketing Preferences" page) and attempted to send a subscription message to all our contacts by using a Mass Update.

After the update completed, I was told an email was sent to 0 contacts.

Has anyone else experienced this? Do you have any suggestions on how I can correctly send a subscription email to a large group of people?
