I have a field of type list/record.  If I have not seleted any value it should return either '' or null.  But it is not returning anything.

I checked out this post in UG:

I tried the length property,  it returned a value of 0. If I select any other item, the length property is either returning 2 or 3. I dont how the length property of a list/record type field is retuning 0 or 2 or 3 and why the getFieldValue is not returning anything.

A code snippet of mine:

var items1_value = nlapiGetFieldValue('custrecord229');//custrecord229 is a list/record  if((items1_value != '' && items1_value!=null && quantity1 == 0) || (((items1_value).length == 0) && quantity1 != 0))   {  alert(items1_value);//not retuning anything  alert(items1_value.length);//returning 0  alert("The item or the quantity has not been entered");  }
