Source from partners associated with the selected customer

I have a custom record that is a child of the customer record.  I also have a field on this custom record that is a partner field.  What I'd like to be able to do is to filter the list of partners I can choose in that field to only those who are associated with the customer this custom record is a child of.

I've tried and tried, but haven't been able to figure it out.  This has got to be possible, right?
