Can't use nlapiSubmitField on Sales orders - Error MISSING_REQD_FLD

So I've been :h_a_w: trying to figure this one out, to no avail.

Issue: Any time I use inline edit via the UI or nlapiSubmitField via code I receive this error 

MISSING_REQD_FLD: Missing required value for mandatory field: trandate


I have systematically inactivated all script and workflows that could pertain to this issue, and I'm still not making any headway. Worst of all, I don't get any script or workflow errors when this occurs.

Has anyone seen this before?

Any suggestions on how to further diagnose this would be helpful.
